Navajo Rug 12' x 7'. A large Bitter Weed Water Trading post floor rug, tightly woven using finely-spun natural-colored yarns. "Schlueter" woven into pattern, woven by A-Son-Bake of Chil Chin Beto, AZ, completed in 1927. This textile is a benchmark in time among thousands of weavings lost to history. $12,000-16,000 Provenance: Original printed photos and large format positive photographs of the weaver sitting at the loom with this rug clearly visible on the loom. Irrefutable documentation includes a written letter to Mr. O.W. Schlueter from the owner of the Bitter Weed Water Trading post reading: "Mr., O.W. Schlueter, Not able to see you, I am mailing you the following information you wish. The Indian woman's name is A-Son-Bake, lives at Chil Chin Beto, Arizona, Age 38. Started weaving in Aug-1926, finished March-1927. By Joe Golino. Bitter Weed Water Trading Post, Kayenta, Ariz." Dated 7-4-27.
