Edward Quigley (1895-1984). The Hold-Up. 88" x 32" x 34" carved wood and painted diorama inside an illuminated wooden display case. One of Quigley's masterpieces with 9 horses and 10 human figures depicting a Wells Fargo Overland Stage hold up by three masked and armed robbers. The locale is near Prineville, Oregon near the Deschutes River. The stagecoach is hand-crafted as well as the figures and animals. The custom display case, including a fully-painted backdrop and authentic terrain, was added later. It has been on loan to the Museum of Western Art and Artifacts in Klamath Falls, Oregon for many years. Completed in 1961 and pictured on page 153 of the book, Ed Quigley, Western Artist by Carl Gohs.
