Rock Newcomb (1945 - ) Leather Beads 9" x 12" acrylic on board Signed lower left Verso: Titled and signed. "This painting features a lovely pair of Cheyenne moccasins, circa 1900. The beading is done using the "lazy stitch" method used almost exclusively by the Cheyenne, Sioux, Arapaho, and Pawnee. During the summer, men and boys wore low-cut, close-fitting moccasins with stiff rawhide soles and soft buckskin uppers. The small branch and berries are Juniper. Native people ate the berries fresh or in cakes and used the bark in many utilitarian ways." $1,500-2,500 Provenance: Joe Doris Hinton Collection, Washington, TX.
